Abstract
A stabilizer or foam-forming solution comprises derivatives of soya bean protein mixed with glycols and/or their ethers. Soya bean protein is added to an aqueous solution of lime at about 200 DEG F. and maintained at that temperature for 12 hours. Sulphuric acid is then added and, after another 4 hours, neutralizing lime. The mass is then filtered and the filtrate concentrated by evaporation; an inhibitor such as sodium pentachlorophenate is then added. The stabilizer is formed by adding glycols and/or ethers such as mono ethyl ether of ethylene glycol or diethylene glycol, to the above solution. The stabilizer solution may be used in the production of mechanical foam or added to the usual chemical in forming chemical foam.
