Abstract
Salts of sulphuric esters of hex strol, stilb strol, or dien strol are obtained by the action on these compounds of sulphamic acid at temperatures below 150 DEG C. in the presence of a tertiary amine as a dispersing agent, followed if desired by crystallisation from potassium or sodium hydroxide. The preferred dispersing agents are pyridine and dimethylaniline. In examples: (1) a pyridine suspension of sulphamic acid and stilb strol is heated on a steam bath to form ammonium stilb strol sulphate which when crystallised from 2N-potassium hydroxide forms the dihydrate of potassium stilb strol sulphate; (2) dien strol is esterified as in example (1), and crystallised as before to form the dihydrate of potassium dien strol sulphate; (3) hex strol is esterified as in example (1), and crystallised to form potassium hex strol sulphate dihydrate; (4) a mixture of stilb strol sulphamic acid and dimethylaniline is heated to 97 DEG C., and the product treated with acetone and crystallised as before.
