Abstract
Aluminium fluoride is produced by heating a mixture of aluminium ammonium fluoride with alumina at temperatures above 350 DEG C., or with aluminium hydroxide above 300 DEG C. The ammonia evolved, if containing ammonium fluoride, may be passed over heated alumina to decompose the fluoride, the alumina being then used as above. The aluminium ammonium fluoride may be produced according to the process of Specification 635,552, from fluoboric acid obtained according to the process of Specification 635,551. Specification 425,908 also is referred to.
