Abstract

Melamine is produced by heating urea in the absence of added ammonia or diluent gas, at a pressure of at least 400 atmos., to 385-550 DEG C., using a reaction time of from less than 3.5 down to 0.3 minutes. The process is otherwise as described in Specification 628,255 and the compounds referred to therein may be used instead of urea. Specifications 628,250 and 628,255 are referred to.
