Abstract

The invention comprises L-ornithine L-aspartate and its monohydrate, and their preparation by (a) reacting L-ornithine with L-aspartic acid or (b) reacting DL-ornithine with L-aspartic acid and fractionally crystallising the product. D-Ornithine L-aspartate is obtained as a by-product in process (b). The compounds of the invention may be used for the treatment of hyperammoniemia.
