Abstract

The invention comprises 9-thia-1-aza-5-b -diethylaminoethylamino - 8 - methyl - anthrone and non-toxic acid addition salts thereof, and a process for the preparation of the above compound by heating 9-thia-1-aza-5-chloro- (or bromo) 8 - methyl - anthrone with b - diethylaminoethylamine, the 9 - thia - 1 - aza - 5 - chloro- (or bromo) 8-methyl-anthrone for the above process may be obtained by heating 2-chloro-nicotinic acid with 2-thiol-4-chloro (or 4-bromo)-toluene to give 3-carboxy-2-(51-chloro or bromo)-21-methyl-phenylthiol)-pyridine which is then subjected to ring closure by treatment with concentrated sulphuric acid, phosphorus oxychloride or aluminium chloride. In the example, 9-thia-1-aza-5-chloro-8-methyl anthrone is prepared by the process referred to above and is then heated with b -diethylamino-ethylamine to give 9-thia-1-aza-5-b -diethyl-aminoethylamino-8-methyl-anthrone which is converted into the hydrochloride salt.
