Abstract

Carbazole-2 : 7-disulphonic acid is obtained by treating 2 : 21 - diaminodiphenyl - 4 : 41 - disulphonic acid, obtained by reducing the corresponding dinitro-compound, with water to above 150 DEG C., in the presence of salts or approximately sufficient alkali to neutralize one sulphonic group. Examples are given of the use of caustic soda and ammonium sulphate. Specification 1766/01, [Class 2, Acids and salts, Organic &c.], is referred to.
