Abstract
Complex chromium compounds of o-oxyazo dyes are made by treating o-alkyloxyazo dyes with a sulphate of chromium under such conditions that the alkyl radicle is split off. In examples the dyestuffs 4-chlor-2-anisidine --> 2-naphthol-6 : 8-disulpho acid or 1-naphthol-3 : 8-disulpho acid, 5-nitro-4-methyl-2-aminoanisole --> 1-naphthol-4 : 8-disulpho acid are heated in a lead-lined autoclave with a sulphuric acid solution of chromium oxide. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 296,819, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.].
