Abstract

526,747. Sulphonamides. WINTHROP CHEMICAL CO., Inc. March 2, 1939, Nos. 6909 and 6910. Convention dates, March 5, 1938 and Aug. 6, 1938. [Class 2 (iii)] A soluble maltose-sulphonamide compound is prepared by condensing maltose with paminobenzene-sulphonamide, if desired in the presence of a trace of ammonium chloride. The reaction may be effected in methyl alcoholic solution. If relatively large quantities of ammonium chloride are present (3 per cent. or more) an insoluble compound is formed, which however can be converted into the soluble compound by treatment with dilute acid and then neutralization. Examples are given. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also describes the preparation of the insoluble maltoside by heating the soluble maltoside in methanol solution in the presence of ammonium chloride. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 519,661.
