334,920. Groves, W. W., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). May 11, 1929. Divided on and addition to 334,878. Thioindigo series.-The process of Specification 334,919 for making stable reduction products from 4 : 4'-dimethyl-6 6<1>-dihalogenthioindigos, by treating them with alkali and a reducing agent, other than a hydrosulphide, and causing an acid to act on the solution so obtained, is extended to 6 : 6<1>-dietlioxythioindigo. In an example, the dyestuff is reduced with caustic soda solution and hydrosulphite, and sulphurous acid is added until the reaction mass is acid to litmus. Instead of sulphurous acid, carbon dioxide may be used, and the reduction may be carried out in the presence of an alcohol. Specification 6490/07 is referred to.
