Abstract

258,462. Gammay, H. Jan. 7, 1926. Camphor is produced from isoborneol by introducing gradually into the isoborneol subdivided in water a chromic acid mixture produced from sodium bichromate and dilute sulphuric acid, or the sulphuric acid may be added to the isoborneol in water and the bichromate solution gradually run in. A few per cent of a non-oxidizable solvent may be added to initiate the reaction. An example is given in which a small quantity of benzene or its homologues or benzine is added.
