334,878. Groves, W. W., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). May 11, 1929. Thioindigo series.-Stable reduction products, which are insoluble or sparingly soluble in aqueous alkali, are obtained from 4: 4<1>-dimethyl- 6 : 6'-dihalogenthioindigos by subjecting them to the action of a reducing agent, other than a hydrosulphide, in the presence of a smaller quantity of an agent of alkaline reaction than that used in practice for vatting the dyestuffs. As alkaline agents, caustic soda and caustic potash; sodium carbonate, and ammonia are specified, while sodium hydrosulphite may be used as the reducing agent. The preparation of reduction products from 4: 4<1>-dimethyl-6: 6<1>-dichlorthioindigo is described in examples. Specification 6490/07 is referred to.
