Abstract

Dextrinated lead azide in granular free-flowing form is prepared by reacting an aqueous solution of a lead salt with an aqueous solution of an azide salt in the presence of dextrin and an anionic surface active agent, for example a disulphonic acid of dinaphthyl methane or a sodium salt of a naphthalene sulphonic acid/ formaldehyde condensate. Also present may be sodium hydroxide and an alkali metal salt of a hydroxycarboxylic or aminocarboxylic acid. Preferably the lead salt solution and azide solution are added separately to a stirred aqueous solution of dextrin and the surface active agent.
