Abstract
The albumose-like degradation products of keratin containing a sulphydryl group, obtainable according to the process of Specification 345,630, are reacted with a gold salt solution until the red colouration resulting from the addition of the gold salt just still disappears; or the addition may be stopped at an earlier stage. In an example, a degradation product of wool is mixed with an aqueous gold chloride solution; after neutralizing with caustic soda, the albumose-gold compound is precipitated with alcohol. According to modifications of the process, the syrup resulting from the degradation may be directly neutralized and gold chloride solution then added, or an alcoholic solution of the above-mentioned syrup may be reacted with an alcoholic gold chloride solution, and the product precipitated by neutralization with alcoholic caustic soda.
