Abstract
Dihydrocodeinone is prepared by treating thebaine with hydrogen in the presence of an acid and of a comparatively large amount of a catalyst, such as platinum or palladium (preferably in the form of "black") or their salts. According to the example, thebaine is dissolved in hydrochloric acid, about 5 per cent of palladium black is added, and the whole then agitated with hydrogen at ordinary temperature; the product is precipitated with alkali and crystallized from alcohol.ALSO:Dihydrocodeinone is prepared by treating thebaine with hydrogen in the presence of an acid and of a comparatively large amount of a catalyst, such as platinum or palladium (preferably in the form of "black") or their salts.
