Abstract

246,842. Rõth, C. Jan. 26, 1926. 2-Amino-5-iodopyridine is prepared by treating 2-aminopyndine with a solution of iodine in alkali iodide (the iodine being preferably in excess), then digesting the crude mass with an alkali hydroxide solution of concentration exceeding 10 per cent, e.g. 10-30 per cent, and finally crystallizing the residue from its solution in water. The treatment with alkali hydroxide solution, the most suitable concentration of which is stated to be 20-35 per cent, is preferably carried out at normal temperature. An example is given.
