Abstract
131,087. Klein, C. A. April 26, 1918. Tar.-Relates to the dehydration of tar, particularly that obtained from producer plants, and consists in bringing the watery tar into intimate contact with a convenient excess of water at a temperature above 40‹ C. The process may be carried out by forcing the heated tar through a perforated screen into a vessel containing water at a temperature above 40‹ C.; by causing a jet of steam to impinge on a jet of tar above the water vessel; by heating the tar in an excess of water by jets of live steam; or by violent mechanical agitation of the tar in the presence of an excess of water heated to a temperature above 40‹ C. The tar is finally allowed to settle and is stated to contain less than 4 per cent of water.
