Abstract

328.697. Rabetrano, E. May 10, 1929, [Convention date]. Carbon.-Graphite is purified by submitting it first to the action of a hot dilute solution of caustic soda or potash under pressure and then, after washing to remove the impurities rendered soluble, treating with a' boiling dilute acid such as sulphuric or hydrochloric acid. The product is then thoroughly washed and dried. The alkaline treatment may be at 1-10 atmospheres pressure and may be carried out at 100-140‹ C. and in a digester which may have a stirring device.
