Abstract

Sodium bicarbonate and sulphuric acid are made from sodium sulphate, by subjecting a solution of sodium sulphate, in a closed space, to the action of carbon dioxide under superatmospheric pressure and, when the reaction is substantially complete, discharging the mother liquor containing sulphuric acid from the closed space whilst maintaining the pressure of the carbon dioxide in the space. The reaction may be carried out at 30 DEG C.
