Crossheads and crosshead guides; guiding- means within cylinder; piston-rods.-In an internal-combustion engine in which opposed pistons b, c drive a common crank-shaft by means of return connecting-rods e, f attached to a common gudgeon-pin d, the gudgeon-pin is carried by a slipper a moving in a cylindrical guide, which may be of the same or of greater diameter than the cylinders. The slipper may be provided with ball bearings. The piston-rods g, h may be pivoted to the pistons and to the slipper, as shown, or may be integral with the pistons and' pivoted to the slipper, or integral both with the pistons and with the slipper. Specifications 3869/80, [Class 135, Valves &c.] and 173,145 are referred to.
