Abstract
311,654. Loewe, B. May 12, 1928, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes.-In a method for dispersing substances exercising a getter action or for activating a cathode, conductors are provided in the valve and so shaped that portions thereof are more strongly heated by the eddy currents induced, the substance to be dispersed being disposed at these portions. In one manner of carrying the invention into effect, the anode of a thermionic valve is utilized as the conductor and the materials described in Specification 306,960 are placed on the interior of the anode at the highly heated portion. Narrow longitudinal slots 2 are formed in the anode 1, the effect being to concentrate the eddy currents into a small space 3 between the slots, a tablet 4 of the material to be dispersed being placed on the space in the interior of the anode. To increase the effect of the slots 2, sheets of mica 5 are inserted therein. Where the material to be heated is an electric conductor, the space 3 is made very small and the material is not in contact with the anode, being heated by radiation from the space 3 and carried by an independent support from the footstep of the valve.
