Abstract
439,328. Discharge apparatus. RADIOAKT.-GES. D. S. LOEWE, 10, Wiesenweg, Steglitz, Germany. Oct. 29, 1934, No. 30958. Convention date, Oct. 30, 1933. Addition to 421,471. [Class 39 (i)] An indirectly-heated cathode consists of an electron emitting surface 3 produced by the metal vapour process on the mid-portion of an equipotential tube 2 surrounding an insulating tube 1, the ends of the tube being at least partly coated with heat-radiating material 4 such as platinum black or a-colloidal dispersion of graphite, the length of a heating helix 5 being equal to that of the emitting surface 3, and the leads 6, projecting into the tube 1, being of such a diameter that no appreciable heating occurs. In a modification, two helices mounted in openings in an insulating tube, are connected at one end by a U- shaped lead of large diameter, and the insulating tube is closed at that end by a porcelain member. The ratio of the resistance of the leads and the heater should be 1 : 10. Screens as described in the parent Specification may be provided.
