Abstract

Compound boilers.-A steam power plant includes a fuel-fired high pressure boiler 1, and a fire-tube boiler 2 adapted for generating steam at a pressure lower than that of the fuelfired boiler and fitted with a mechanical means such as a fan 4 capable of inducing the waste gases from the furnace through the tubes of the lowpressure boiler at a speed of 40 feet per second or over. A pump 7 supplies water from the boiler 2 to the high-pressure boiler and a pump 10 circulates the water in the boiler 2. The boiler 2 may be arranged that a considerable drop in water level is permissible so that under peak load the feed to it may be reduced or stopped. Specification 259,726 is referred to.
