[Class 123 (ii)] In a steam power and heating plant comprising a steam generator 1 supplying high pressure steam to an engine 3 which exhausts into a regenerative accumulator or low pressure boiler 2 supplying steam to heating apparatus 59, to allow the generator to remain in operation when the engine is shut off, the steam from the generator may be led through a pipe 31 into the accumulator or low pressure boiler, from which water is returned to the generator by a pump 40, the high pressure pump 41 used during the normal operation of the boiler being cut out. A pressure operated valve 30<b> in the high pressure supply pipe 10 maintains the steam pressure constant, and a temperature controlled device 16 in the steam pipe regulates a valve 17 in the high pressure feed supply pipe. A low pressure boiler used in place of the regenerative accumulator 2 consists of a partitioned reservoir in one compartment of which steam is generated by the exhaust and generator steam circulating around water tubes in the other compartment.
