Abstract
966,184. Steam regenerative accumulators. SIEMENS - SCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. July 29, 1963 [July 28, 1962], No. 30036/63. Heading F4A. In a method of generating superheated steam at a substantially uniform rate and temperature from a number of boilers at which heat is available only intermittently and not necessarily simultaneously, the boilers are connected to a single accumulator and all the time heat is available at any one boiler water is supplied to it from the accumulator at a constant rate such that when the heating is most intense the boiler supplies steam with about 10 to 20% moisture to the accumulator, steam from the latter being superheated in an independently fired boiler. In the form shown, the plant comprises three boilers 1 . . . 3 heated intermittently by the blow gas from respective Bessemer converters. The boilers are connected to a Ruths accumulator 4 by steam lines 20, 21, 22 whilst water is withdrawn therefrom through a line 11 and pumped to boiler 1 by feed pumps 12 and to boilers 2, 3 by feed pumps 14, the water flows being respectively controlled by valves 17A ... 19A so that at the time of maximum heating thereof the flow to a particular boiler is such that it delivers steam with 10-20% moisture to the accumulator, this flow being maintained during the whole of the blow period for that boiler. Steam is withdrawn at constant rate from the accumulator and flows through a superheater 24 in a gas or oil-fired boiler 23 to a turbine 26 driving an electric generator G. Steam exhausts from the turbine to a condenser 27 whence a pump 28 delivers condensate to a tank 49. Pumps 29 deliver feedwater from the tank through a bled steam preheater 31 and economizer 25 in the boiler 23 to the accumulator and also through lines 35 ... 37 to economizers 32 ... 34 respectively located in the boilers 1 .. 3, the water from these economizers also passing to the accumulator. The water flows to the accumulator are regulated to keep the level therein constant.
