306,373. Kelly, J. R. Dec. 28, 1927. Divided on 309,098, [Class 7 (vi), Internalcombustion engines, Valves &c. for]. Engines with reciprocating cylinders.-In an engine wherein the piston and cylinder reciprocate oppositely and operate cranks on the same shaft, an oscillating, distributing valve J is mounted in a chest I forming part of the cylinder which is guided by the inlet and exhaust pipes G, L<1> which slide through stuffing-boxes in the framing. The valve is operated by normallystationary tappets E', F<1> which are adjustably mounted on screws in the framing. The cylinder may be directly connected to a crank by a rod T, or through a rod S and crosshead connection.
