433,022. Two-stroke engines; valves. KINETIC CYCLE RESEARCH CORPORATION, 17, John Street, New York, U.S.A.- (Assignees of Kahn, B. ; 17, John Street, New York, U.S.A.) Jan. 28, 1935, No. 2796. Convention date, Jan. 29, 1934. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi)] In a two-stroke engine, the means for reciprocating the sleeve valve controlling inlet and exhaust is connected to the valve at a point farther from the crank shaft than the inlet ports. Fig. 1 shows part of a radialcylinder engine having sleeve valves 17 controlling inlet ports 13 and exhaust ports 18, the rod 29 for operating the valve being connected thereto at its upper end 19. All the rods 29 are actuated by a grooved cam 27. As the sleeve valve and cylinder are attached at opposite ends, they expand in opposite directions longitudinally under heat, and thus increase the duration of opening of the ports. Fig. 7 shows the invention applied to cylinders in line, the sleeve valves, together with pump pistons 56, being reciprocated by cranks 50. These pistons pump air on one side and mixture on the other side to respective inlet chambers 59 and 60. The connection of the operating-mechanism to the sleeve may be about halfway along the sleeve, instead of at the top.
