17,133. Braud, G. July 19. Engines with reciprocating cylinders. -The engine has a reciprocating cylinder c connected by rods e<2> to two cranks set at 180 degrees to the piston crank. In the internal-combustion engine shown in Fig. 2, the cylinder e works in an outer fixed-cylinder d. The fixed cylinder has valve-controlled inlet and exhaust ports, controlling the working of the reciprocating cylinder in the fixed cylinder, and similar inlet and exhaust ports, communicating with rows of ports in the wall of the reciprocating cylinder, controlling the working of the piston f in the cylinder e. The valves are operated from the cam shaft c, which may be set so that the firing- stroke of the fixed cylinder is simultaneous with the scavenging - stroke of the reciprocating cylinder. The valves may be arranged so that the fixed cylinder only, or the reciprocating cylinder only is working. In the latter case, the fixed cylinder may be replaced by suitable guides.
