Alloys.-An aluminium alloy contains nickel, or nickel and cobalt, and one or more of the metals chromium, molybdenum, and tungsten, with or without one or more hardening metals which may be copper, manganese, and iron. In some cases one or more of the elements tin, lead, silver, titanium, magnesium, and silicon may also be present. The alloys are made by melting the heavy metals together and adding them to aluminium so as to obtain an alloy containing 60-75 per cent of aluminium: this alloy is then added to aluminium to obtain a final alloy containing not less than 94 per cent of aluminium. The metals of the chromium group may be used in the form of ferro-alloys.
