Abstract

262,911. Goss Printing Press Co. of England, Ltd., and Smith, E. J. Nov. 23, 1925. Collapsable spindles. - A spindle, particularly for supporting a paper roll in a printing-press, comprises a sleeve A in which a screwed rod D, or two such rods in axial alignment, is rotatably mounted but held against axial movement, and has threaded upon it a number of wedge blocks C in which are held gripping- members B adapted to move radially in slots in the sleeve upon rotation of the rod or rods D to grip or release the core E of the roll F. The ends of the rod or rods D are adapted to be engaged by the side-lay devices G<1>, G<2> when the spindle is inserted in the press.
