Abstract

386,702. Hectograph copying- apparatus. TANNER, E. B. T., Courtlands, Mount Pleasant Road, Saffron Walden, Essex. Aug. 8, 1931, No. 22489. [Class 100 (ii).] A sheet of paper or fabric coated with gelatine or the like is removably attached to a spring or weight loaded roller adapted to be rolled by hand over the surface to be printed. As shown, a gelatine - coated sheet 6 is secured at its ends to split shafts 7, 8 inserted respectively in recesses 4, 5 in the end walls 3 of a roller 1 detachably connected to a handle 14. The arms 9, 10 of a spring secured to each wall 3 bear against the shafts 7, 8, the recess 5 and the end of the arm 10 being shaped to force the shaft 8 towards the centre of the roller to tension the sheet 6. The roller 1 is counterweighted by a rod 12 secured between the walls 3 and by the weight of the shafts 7, 8 or is spring-loaded ; also, the roller is mounted by means of a spindle 16 in inclined slots 15 in a stirrup 13 fixed to the handle 14, and the spindle is locked in the slots by slidable clips 17 provided with slots 18 engaging the spindle ends. The ends of the sheet 6 may be secured in a slot in the roller by a clamping-bar screwed in position, and the heads of the screws or nuts on the screws may project to form supports holding the roller clear of the table &c. Similarly, the ends of the spindle 16 may rest on blocks to support the gelatine clear of a member carrying the blocks.
