Abstract

June 16, 1926, Rotary machines.-In a rotary printing-machine the type cylinder or both the type and impression cylinders can be withdrawn axially and are supported in the machine in the withdrawn position, so as to permit of easy access for making ready. In one form, Fig. 2, the type cylinder is mounted on a shaft 2 removably fixed at opposite ends 3 in supports 4 mounted one on the inside of the machine frame 6, and the other on the inside of the frame on two parallel rods 5 connected at one end bv a tie-bar and at the other end by an operating-handle. The cylinder 1 is shown in its withdrawn position in Fig. 1; it can be pushed in so as to bring the gears 13, 14 into engagement, and in this position its supports can be locked. In a modification, Fig. 5, both the type cylinder 1<a> and its impression cylinder 9<a> can slide along extended shafts 2<a>, 10<a>, one or both of which is supported by the machine frame 6<a> and a bracket 15. A bearer plate 16 normally supports the outer ends of the cylinders, and this plate is secured to the side frame 6<a> by a. screw- For making ready, both cylinders are withdrawn, their gears 13<a>, 14a remaining in engagement.
