Joints formed by welding.-In a welded spigot- and-socket joint for pipes, any strains caused by the welding operation are counteracted by providing the socket a, Fig. 1, with a corrugation or double flange b adapted to receive the end d of the other pipe. The spigot d is caused to bear closely in the socket at two places e, f in order to support the weld c and eliminate stresses due to bending, while holes h with screwed closing- plugs may be provided in the spigot and socket members, so as to fill the hollow space i with an anti-rust composition. The end of the spigot may be thickened either by being doubled over or by having a separate ring p, Fig. 5, welded thereon. In a modification the corrugation isprovided on the spigot member-
