Abstract
219,481. Broughton Copper Co., Ltd., and Tomlinson, F. July 14, 1923. Butt joints.-Relates to a pipe &c. joint wherein the pipes 1, 2 are provided with flanges 3, 4, respectively, adapted to be drawn together by a screwed coupling 5, 6. The coupling member 5 is provided with a convex rim 7, while the member 6 has a concave annular recess 8, of different radii in cross-section, so that when the flanges are pressed together two concentric lines of contact are formed thereon. Spaces 5a, 6a are provided between the members 5, 6 and the tubes 1, 2 to allow for bending stresses. In a modification, the coupling 5, 6 is replaced by two ordinary sleeves, formed with a rim and recess respectively, joined by a coupling sleeve.
