Tapered spigot-and-socket joints; butt joints.- In a pipe union the usual soldered- or brazed-on coned nipple a, Fig. 1, is replaced by a nipple formed integral with and from part of the pipe or tube k. The operation is carried out with an ordinary punch g and die e, Fig. 7, and where light gauge tubes are used the end of the tube is preferably strengthened by an internal liner c, Fig. 3. A flat seat union with a strengthening liner, Fig. 4, may be formed in a similar manner.
