Abstract

178,253. Slade, H., and Green & Son, Ltd., E. Feb. 15, 1921. Butt joints; plates &c., securing tubes to. - Non-flanged pipes A are secured to the ends of other non-flanged pipes or to a plate or header by casting the pipes with tapered ends, on which are fitted flanges B having a corresponding internal taper. The flanges are secured by bolts C, and . the tubes may meet end to end, or a ring of packing may be interposed. The joint may be further strengthened by machining a groove D in the tube near its end and fitting therein a split ring E. A recessed ring plate F engages the ring E and is secured to the flange C by bolts G. If the tube is to be secured to a header or plate, the bolts C of the flange are secured to the header or plate.
