Abstract
341,605. Pipe joints. SPENCER, Ltd., J. and SPENCER, SIR T. H., Globe Tube Works, Wednesbury, Staffordshire. Nov. 8, 1929, No. 34077. Addition to 280,644, [Class 99 (i), Pipes and tubes, Joints &c. for]. [Class 99 (i).] The clamping means used in the joint described in the parent Specification are replaced by a loose ring f which has an internal flange f at one end with a series of cam or inclined surfaces g on its inner face to engage like surfaces h formed on the abutment c of the pipe a and a flange j at the other end to engage projections k on the abutment d of the pipe b. The flange j is formed with gaps complementary to the projections k so that the flange may engage the latter by passing the projections through the gaps and giving the ring a partial turn. The latter movement will cause the cam surfaces g, h to ride over each other and draw the pipes more tightly into engagement. The said projections may, if desired, be formed on the flange j and the gaps on the abutment d.
