Abstract

Joints formed by tt'eMittg.-The abutting ends of flangeless pipes are jointed by providing said ends with engaging overlapping parts a, b, Fig. 1, which are formed by reducing the thickness of the metal, and a, cavity c above said interengaging parts for the reception of welding metal. The joint may be strengthened by thickening the ends of the pipes and/or by welding an external sleeve g, Fig. 4, at each end h across the joint. In a modification, Fig. 5., a recess k is turned in the end of each pipe and a loose ring l is slipped therein prior to welding.
