Joints formed by welding. - The end b of a pipe a is bent back nearly on to the pipe itself to a spherical or conical shape, Fig. 1, to engage the socket c of the adjacent pipe d over the whole of its surface, and the pipes are connected by bending the end of the socket-over the bent-back portion b and welding it to the pipe a at e. The end of the portion b may be bent down towards the pipe a as shown at f, Fig. 2, and the bentover end of the socket g may be welded to this bent-down portion f Fig. 3, instead of to the pipe proper.
