Abstract

337,463. Mannesmannr÷hren-Werke. May 27, 1929, [Convention date]. Joints formed by welding. - In a welded spigot-and-socket pipe joint of the kind in which the edge of the spigot is bent back through 180‹ and engages the edge of the socket which is also bent back through 180‹ Fig. 1, the socket is divided into segments by longitudinal or inclined slits so as to facilitate the engagement of the two parts and also strengthen the welded seam therebetween by increasing its dimensions. Instead of the socket being bent back it may be provided with a thickened portion formed by upsetting &c., Fig. 2, or by welding or screwing a ring within the mouth therof. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a joint as shown in Fig. 2 but without the slits. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
