Abstract

331,445. Tovey, W. Sept. 27, 1929. Joints formed by welding. -In a method of connecting two tubular members together, such as a cycle handle-bar to its stem, lugs are formed integral with one of the tubes for the other tube to seat upon, the joint being completed by welding &c. As shown in Figs. 3-5, the stem 1 is slit longitudinally and transversely, and the parts freed by the slits are bent out tangentially to form lugs 4, the outer edges of which are of arcuate form to receive the handle-bar tube. Filling-plates 6, 7, Fig. 6, are welded in position before the application of the handle-bar tube. In a modification, the stem is formed by bending a sheet-metal blank shaped and slit to provide at the top the seating lugs for the handle-bar tube.
