373,022. Return bends for pipes. SUPERHEATER CO., 50, East 42nd Street, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Brandt, C. A. V. ; Maple Street, Great Neck, Long Island, New York, U.S.A.) Aug. 22, 1931, No. 23665. Convention date, April 18. [Class 99 (i).] Two pipes, one or both of which are of metal not readily weldable by pressing or hammering, are connected by a return bend made directly on the pipes out of end portions thereof. The ends of the pipes are first heated and then split for a suitable distance inwardly along a line parallel to the axes. The portion of each pipe adjacent'the slit is then bent outwardly and, preferably simultaneously with this operation, the edges 2, 3 of the bent. out portions are caused to abut forcibly against one another, whereupon the abutting edges are welded together at 4. The incomplete bend is then closed in known manner. Specifications 10792/09 and 6304/15, [both in Class 99 (i), Pipes and tubes, Joints &c. for], are referred to.
