Abstract

284,790. Ellis, H. A. Nov. 6, 1926. Bends.-In order to make a junction or return bend for two tubes by slitting and welding the open sides of the tubes, the split region f of one of the tubes is opened out to a greater width than is the split region of the other tube e so that the abutting edges c, c<1> thereof may be lapwelded. The ends of the tubes are preferably thickened, prior to slitting by axial compression, after which the tube ends may be subjected to circumferential pressure to produce further thickening. The final closing of the ends may be effected by any of the usual methods.
