Abstract

424,233. Pipe joints. GOODRICH CO., B. F., 342, Madison Avenue, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Nathan, T. D.) Jan. 29, 1934, No. 2978. Convention date, May 15, 1933. [Class 99 (i)] In a pipe joint a rubber sleeve 33 is of greater diameter than the internal diameter of the socket or sleeve into which it is forced and is secured at its front end to the pipe or spigot 31 so that it may stretch rearwardly. The sleeve may have a sheet metal nose 26 which extends over the end of the spigot. The bore of the double socket 34, Fig. 4 may taper to a smaller diameter at its ends, the pipes having parallel tapered surfaces 37<a>. The sleeve 60, Fig. 5, is secured on the spigot by a screwed cap 61, and, when the joint is made, is retained by a ring 64. The sleeve 70, Fig. 6, may have a reinforced flange 71, so that it may be stretched initially to facilitate assembly of the joint. In another form of joint the pipe ends abut and are joined by a connecting sleeve 96 which is in two parts bolted together, and is first pushed on to pipe 92 to the position shown in Fig. 12, and then pushed back to compress the sleeve 97 on pipe 93. The rubber sleeve may be in two parts having an overlapping longitudinal joint and may be split. In a joint for lined pipes the rubber sleeves 106, Fig. 14, overlap the ends of the pipes and the connecting sleeve 104 is retained in position by rings 112 engaging grooves 117 in the pipes and the inclined faces of lugs 115 on the sleeve.
