[Classes 99 (i) and 99 (ii)] A pipe coupling is of the type described in Specifications 403,870, 491,761, 492,336, 527,999 and 528,306, but is distinguished in that the coupling member (6 on the drawings) is slidable on the pipe and also in that it has an outwardly flared mouth (8) at each end. Such an arrangement enables the coupling to be used in a method of repairing a pipe which has been damaged such as by a bullet hole, the method comprising severing the pipe completely through the damaged portion and re-uniting by means of the coupling. The coupling consists of a coupling member 6, sealing rings 9 and coupling nuts 12, the rings and being compressed into the flared ends of the member 6 and into " biting " engagement (Fig. 5) with the pipes on tightening the nuts 12. The pipe ends normally abut inside the coupling member, but they can be spaced apart if relative axial movement is prevented by connecting them to fixed points by means of additional couplings. Fig. 2 shows a pipe 1 damaged at 2, and severed completely at 3, the severing being the first step in the repair. Fig. 3 shows the two parts 4, 5 of the pipe moved relatively into such a position that parts of the coupling can be slid on each pipe part as shown. The parts 4, 5 are then brought together again, the coupling member 6 slid over the damaged portion, and the coupling completed as shown in Fig. 5, there being now a fluid-tight seal on each side of the hole 2.
