Penholders; preventing cramp; reservoir pens. -In a penholder of the type in which the nib is held by a clamp movable in the shaft, the clamp is loosely mounted in a recess of oval cross-section, so that it can move longitudinally but not transversely, and can rotate on its axis for adjustment of the nib relative to the writing- surface. The nib is held by a spring e in a circular clamping-sleeve d mounted in an oval sleeve b secured in a recess in the shaft a, the external diameter of the sleeve d being equal to the shorter axis of the sleeve b. A wire spring h is mounted in a groove in the wall of the recess, its rear end being inserted in a hole, in the sleeve b and its front end being bent to embrace the sleeve d, so that the front end of the sleeve is drawn downwards, and the upward movement of the sleeve during writing is partly taken up by the spring in order to reduce the liability @ cramp. An externally-roughened cap k, provided with a crescent-shaped slot for the passage of the nib, is fitted on the end of the shaft a. The device may be used in connection with reservoir pens.
