Vaporizers, external.-Rich mixture formed in a carburettor G passes through a pipe F in a boxlike vaporizer A which is heated by exhaust gas entering at B and leaving at B<2>. The main air supply is through a hand- or suction-operated valve E and past a detachable choke tube C<2>. The rich mixture either issues from a series of holes F<3>, as shown, or from an annular row of holes or slits in the choke tube. The sum of the areas of the choke tube C<2> and the pipe F should be equal to the area of the air inlet E. The pipe F is coiled opposite the exhaust entry port and a baffle J, operated by a handle H<3>, controls the heating effect of the exhaust. A throttle valve, in the form of a transversely sliding plate, may be provided between the vaporizer and the engine.
