Abstract
161,511. Dalton, H. Nov. 16, 1920. Surface carburettors.-In a carburettor for internal-combustion engines air enters a fuel tank 2 by means of a pipe 4 having perforations 5 or by a pipe 25 or both, the air supply to each being controlled by a valve 22 and lever 23. The carburetted air then passes to the manifold 13 of the engine by way of a non-return valve 9, a throttle valve 14 where it meets a secondary supply of air through the throttle 17, and a pipe 12. The air supply through the pipe 26 is heated previous to carburetting by the exhaust pipe 27, the exhaust gases then being led to a chamber 28 on the underside of the tank 2 for initially heating the fuel. The usual blow-off valve 20 is fitted in combination with the non-return valve 9 in case of back-fire and a storage tank 33 containing light fuel is arranged to admit this light fuel to a chamber 7 in the gas supply-pipe 6 for starting purposes.
