Abstract

168,079. Thornycroft & Co., Ltd., J. I., and Thornycroft, T. Feb. 27, 1920. Vaporizers, external.-The mixture passes down passages n into a chamber o and up passages p in a massive body a provided in its interior with a return passage b, b<1> for exhaust gases. The exterior of the body a is thus left free to be heated at starting by a blow lamp u. The amount of exhaust gases supplied to the passage b, b<1> is controlled by a rotary partition g or 'by a valve mounted on an horizontal axis. Ribs a<1>, Fig. 2, may be provided on the interior of the bcdy a to increase the heating-surface. Mixture may be supplied from an automatic carburettor or, as shown in Fig. 1, the fuel may be supplied direct to a nozzle v in the throat of a Venturi tube w, in which case a suction-actuated extraair inlet valve y is provided adjacent to the throttle valve y<1>. The pressure of the valve spring 8 mav be regulated by adjusting the position of the abutment 9, which is provided with an operating-arm 15 bearing against a cam surface 16. Petrol may be used at starting, the fuel. supply pipe v being provided with a three-way cock controlling the supply of light or heavy fuel.
