Abstract

26,541. Lion, G. P. J., and BrilliÚ, A. E. Feb. 11, [date applied for under Patents Act, 19011. Gas or explosive-vapour engines.-A vaporizing and carburetting apparatus for solid fuel or fuel not readily volatile comprises a tank f, Figs. 1 and 5, containing the fuel and heated by the exhaust gases passing through pipes 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 leading from the exhaust chamber a, Figs. 1 and 4, to the outlet e. The main air supply enters at 8, Fig. 5, and is heated by the exhaust while traversing the elbow-pipe 10. The air then descends upon the fuel jet u fed from the tank f through filtering- screens, float chamber, and valves as shown. The mixture leaving the jet u passes by way of passages 13, 18, also warmed by the exhaust, past a throttle valve 20 to the admission valve chest, receiving a supplementary supply of air on the way through an opening 16, which air is warmed by being caused to pass round a baffle 17. At starting, a cock n is set so as to cut off the pipe 13 and admit air carburetted with light oil from a separate nozzle k direct to the cylinders. Fig. 7 shows the construction of the nozzle u, which is made with a cap below which the liquid is sprayed out through passages s.
